About this notice
This is the privacy notice for compassbpd.co.uk. It explains what personal information I collect, why I collect it, what I do with it, and the rights you have over it.
This site is operated under the name Compass BPD. I write under that name to protect the privacy of my family. If you need to contact me about anything in this notice — to ask a question, exercise a right, or raise a concern — please email eupdcompass@gmail.com and I will reply.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, I am the data controller for the personal information collected through this site.
What information I collect, and why
There are two ways I might collect personal information about you on this site.
If you sign up to the newsletter, I collect the email address you give me, and any name you choose to enter on the sign-up form. I use this information to send you the Compass BPD newsletter and to keep a record of who has consented to receive it. The lawful basis for this is your consent, given when you complete the sign-up form. You can withdraw your consent at any time, and I explain how below.
If you use the contact form on the About page, I receive the email address you write from, along with whatever you choose to include in your message. I use this information to read your message and to reply to it. The lawful basis for this is my legitimate interest in being able to respond to people who write to me — I assume that if you send me a message, you would like an answer.
I do not collect any other personal information from visitors to this site. In particular, I do not use cookies, I do not run analytics software, and I do not have advertising on the site.
Who else sees your information
The newsletter is managed using MailerLite Limited, an email marketing service registered in Ireland. When you sign up, your email address is stored in my MailerLite account, and MailerLite processes that information on my behalf in order to send the newsletter. MailerLite’s own privacy policy explains how they handle the data they process for me.
Messages sent through the contact form arrive in a Gmail inbox that I use only for Compass BPD correspondence. Google therefore acts as the email service provider for those messages.
The site itself is hosted by WordPress.com (Automattic Inc.), which holds the data necessary to keep the site running. Automattic is based in the United States but operates under data protection commitments that apply to UK and EU visitors.
I do not share your personal information with anyone else. I do not sell it, swap it, or pass it to other organisations for their own purposes.
How long I keep your information
If you sign up to the newsletter, I keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your email address is removed from the active list. MailerLite may retain unsubscribed records for a short period to honour the unsubscribe request and prevent accidental re-adding.
If you write to me through the contact form, I keep your message in the Gmail inbox for as long as it remains useful for the correspondence. I review the inbox periodically and delete messages that are no longer needed.
If at any point you would like me to delete the information I hold about you, please email eupdcompass@gmail.com.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the following rights in relation to the personal information I hold about you:
- The right to be informed — to know what information I hold and how I use it. This notice is part of how I meet that right.
- The right of access — to ask me for a copy of the information I hold about you.
- The right to rectification — to ask me to correct anything that is wrong.
- The right to erasure — to ask me to delete the information I hold about you.
- The right to restrict processing — to ask me to limit what I do with the information.
- The right to object — to object to my use of the information in certain circumstances.
- The right to data portability — to ask me to transfer the information to another service in a readable format.
- The right to withdraw consent — where I am relying on your consent (as with the newsletter), you can withdraw it at any time, either by clicking the unsubscribe link on any newsletter email, or by emailing me.
To exercise any of these rights, please email eupdcompass@gmail.com. I will respond within one month.
If you are not satisfied with how I have handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection (ico.org.uk). I would be grateful if you would contact me first so I can try to put things right.
Links to other websites
This site sometimes links to other websites — articles, resources, organisations I think may be helpful. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of those other sites. When you follow a link away from compassbpd.co.uk, I would encourage you to read the privacy notice of the site you arrive at.
Changes to this notice
I may update this notice from time to time — for instance, if I add new features to the site, or if the law changes. The date at the top of the notice shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will be flagged in the newsletter.
